Bring your own numbers

A spreadsheet, the months before Max arrived, or the CRM you already use. Every import is read first and written second, and anything written can be taken back.

Before you start

  • A CSV up to 4 MB and 20,000 rows. Split a larger file, or send the whole thing to the AdsEye team to run.
  • Dates in one format, and money as plain numbers without currency symbols or thousands separators.
  1. Choose what you are bringing in

There are four kinds: sales, against enquiries you already have; past results, for a period; enquiries, with their stage and where they came from; and a customer list, to match against. Each kind says what it writes before you upload anything.

  2. Download the example file

Every kind has an example CSV with the right headings. Past results use Date, Platform, Campaign, Spend, Impressions, Clicks, Results and Result value, and Date, Platform and Spend are required. A sale needs an email or phone number, or a reference, plus the date and value.

  3. Upload and confirm the columns

Max detects the delimiter and the encoding, shows the first five rows as he read them, and guesses which column is which from the headings. Confirm every guess; the fields marked needed must be mapped. A wrong guess quietly attributing a sale to the wrong ad is the one thing this page exists to avoid.

  4. Say what happens to a row that is already here

Leave it alone, which is the safe default and counts the row as already here; Write it again, which overwrites; or Add it anyway, which keeps both and is only sensible when the file really holds two of the same thing.

  5. Read the whole file first

Reading writes nothing. It tells you exactly what would happen: the rows that would be written, the rows already here, the rows Max cannot read and why, and the sales with no enquiry to attach to, with a Pick the enquiry link for each.

  6. Write it, and take it back if you need to

Save the mapping writes the rows and says how many. Everything an import wrote can be removed with one button, and the staged file is deleted with it. Max never changes a budget because of an import; anything that would change what he does with money still comes to you as a proposal.

Common issues

The file was rejected?

Check that the headings match the example, the dates are valid, and the numbers are plain. Files over 4 MB are refused; over 20,000 rows, only the first 20,000 are taken.

A sale has no enquiry to attach to?

Pick the enquiry from the list, or import the enquiries first and the sales second.

Do imported sales go back to the platforms?

Yes, when the enquiry carries a click ID or the hashed contact details of someone who agreed to ad measurement. The Customers page shows what was sent and what was not, and why.
